Airtel’s Relocation Package

Number Portability is still a long way ahead and if you are someone like me who has been using the same mobile connection for the past three years and the number is your gateway to your friends, then this will be a problem when you are planning to relocate. I am using Airtel for the past 3 years and also have the GPRS connection with them and I am totally happy with them.

I am so happy with their service that I want to continue using their service even after I relocate to Bangalore next month (more on this coming in a separate post, next month). Then I remember that I had paid Rs. 300 as a deposit 3 years back. So I called up Airtel customer suport to find out what will happen to the deposit.

It seems they have something called a ‘Relocation Package’ – sweet. And when I opt for this service, the deposit of Rs. 300 will still be valid and I can use my current mobile number for 15 days (that too without any roaming charges). During this time, I can get in touch with the local Airtel office and get my new number (of which the last 5 digits can remain the same). The charge for this is just Rs. 100. I really like this.

I just hope they deliver what they promised. I will be finding that out by mid-December…

    Hi Deepak,

Few doubts on this relocation thing:
    1. When u approached the local Airtel office for a new number in Bangalore, did you have to give a new address proof?
    2. Do u have to submit the old SIM card to them in Bangalore?
    3. How many days did it take for you to get the new number?
    4. Was ur usage limit in the new number as it was with the old number?
